For those of us who may have missed it in the 'Blogs' section of the 'Around the Web' portion of iSGTW's front page (or who didn't see it on the GridPP blog aggregator) you may have missed these two blogs about the terms “grid” and “cloud.”

One is called "Grid is dead. Again."

The other is called "What cloud computing got right."

An excerpt is below:

It wasn't Colonel Mustard, with the lead piping, in the library. It was a posting, on the Nature eResearch blog.

To be fair: he is an eyewitness - not the perpetuator to the dastardly deed. He was highlighting a panel discussion at the IEEE eScience conference in Brisbane entitled "Grid Computing is dead: Let's all move to the Cloud".

That title looks like another round of that popular panel game: my vague terminology is better that your vague terminology. As Simon Hettrick has pointed out - Clouds computing has one big advantage over Grid computing - the Name. Clouds sound nice and fluffy; grids sound hard and rigid.

You cannot really discuss Cloud computing in general. You need to talking about the the various Somethings-as-a-Service . . .

Could you provide a link to the "What cloud computing got right" article?

The link above doesn't work. If anyone would like to read the original post from the NGS blog then it can be found here - http://nationalgridservice.blogspot.com/2010/12/dead-again.html

Thanks, Anonymous! I've fixed the link to the GridPP site, but I'm also glad to have the link you've shared with us; sending readers to the original post is definitely desirable.

One is largly used by companies and the other one is hardly used even n the academia. It would be useful to understand it and move to the current technology.
