PhD Comics

PhD Comics— short for ‘Piled Higher and Deeper’ — describes itself as “the ongoing chronicle of life (or the lack thereof) in grad school” and pokes sharp-eyed, observant, good-humored fun at grad students, research and procrastination.

The author, Jorge Cham, earned  his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, and was a full-time instructor and researcher at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) from 2003-2005. He’s done research publications on robots and brain-machine interfaces.

The strip has appeared in The Stanford Daily for the past nine years, and in the MIT, Carnegie Mellon University and Caltech newspapers, among other publications — including the journal Nature.

He did a 4-part “on the road series,” called Collisions in which he visited the grounds of CERN.  Horrors! Get a taste of his observations below.
