The future of networking
Today's transfer protocols can't scale beyond one gigabit per second, according to Jasleen Kaur, a researcher at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. That's bad news for the growing number of data-intensive experiments, which require a great deal of bandwidth.
"Researchers have worked on newer and newer protocols that scale better, but they sort of have the same framework that TCP does," Kaur explained in a video about her research.
Kaur and her colleagues are throwing out that legacy framework in favor of an entirely new paradigm, RAPID, which will theoretically be capable of more than a terabit per second. That's more like it!
