When a building cannot withstand nature's vagaries, lives can be lost. Structural engineers strive to ensure that the buildings we construct are earthquake safe, but their success is constrained by the accuracy and precision of their models and earthquake simulations. With better models and more realistic simulations, structural engineers can design safer buildings.

Now a structural engineering researcher is using grid computing to try out new models and simulations that may yield more precise and accurate results.
