Announcement - EDGeS and SEE-GRID-SCI agree to bridge grids

The EDGeS and SEE-GRID-SCI projects have signed an agreement to connect the SEE-GRID infrastructure, implemented in South-East Europe, to other grids using the EDGeS Bridge technology. Also under the agreement, SEE-GRID-SCI and EDGeS will collaborate on application porting, and on dissemination and training activities.
"The collaboration between SEE-GRID-SCI and EDGeS is a good example of how sustainable pan-European grid e-Infrastructures can be built out of national and regional resources," said Peter Kacsuk, EDGeS project manager.
In the collaboration, the SEE-GRID-SCI infrastructure will join many desktop grids already connected via EDGeS 3G, including the SZTAKI desktop grid in Hungary, AlmereGrid in The Netherlands, IberCivis in Spain, and the University of Westminster grid in the UK, and of course the EGEE and ELAA service grids.
The two projects' application departments will coop

The deadline for submissions to the First International Conference on Cloud Computing is June 1.
The conference itself is to be held on 1-4 December in Beijing, China.
“Cloud” is a common metaphor for an Internet accessible infrastructure (e.g. data storage and computing hardware) which is hidden from users. Cloud computing makes data truly mobile and a user can simply access a chosen cloud with any internet accessible device. IT-related capabilities are provided as services, accessible without requiring detailed knowledge of the underlying technology. Thus, many mature technologies are used as components in cloud computing, but still there are many unresolved and open problems. This

Announcement - Fault treatment questionnaire

Announcement - Fault treatment questionnaire

Alexandre Duarte, a Ph.D. candidate in the Distributed Systems Lab at the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande in Brazil, studies faults in grids. He works with the EC co-funded EELA-2 and OurGrid projects. He and his colleagues currently want to capture actual experiences of active grid community members.
They invite iSGTW readers — especially experienced grid users, developers and system administrators — to fill out a short, anonymous online questionnaire.  They have run it twice previously, and this time aim to identify how grid fault treatment has evolved over the last four years. If you are interested in the results of this research or would like more information about the results of the previous runs, you may contact Mr. Duarte.
