Mary Wheeler is the first woman to receive the IEEE John von Neumann Medal, the highest award bestowed by the Unites States Association for Computational Mechanics.

Wheeler is the director of the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences’ Center for Subsurface Modeling at The University of Texas at Austin, US.
