By combining the latest hardware, a Dutch team named SARA demonstrated one of the fastest research networks in the world, rendered from almost two thousand kilometers away in real time, at twice the quality of high-definition streaming.
The team streamed an astrophysics simulation demonstrating the motion of 8.6 billion dark matter particles, which is useful for scientists examining how cosmic structures formed after the universe's creation.
What made this performance unique is that no complex computer clusters were used, only off-the-shelf hardware and an ultra-fast data link.
Could this infrastructure have benefits beyond the realm of science?
