eResearch NZ 2014: Call for Participation

Name:
Jodie Woodward
Organization:
eResearch NZ 2014

eResearch NZ 2014 welcomes submissions for 5 minute lightning talks, 15 minute presentations, posters and workshops and demonstrations of work underway or complete within the last year.

The aims of the conference are:

·         Promote shared approaches to supporting eResearch needs, across institutions and disciplines

·         Highlight current and emerging research priorities and discuss how eResearch can enable Research, including by drawing on experience from other regions where similar activities are further progressed and where these initiatives might translate to meet NZ research needs

·         Share work in progress and outcomes from projects and programmes employing related technologies, platforms, and approaches.

The conference will act as a national forum for discussion around the following themes:

real world: eResearch enables science to address real world problems, enabling current and future research communities and practices. New Zealand's research sector is currently establishing collaborative approaches to science, including for our most pressing national science challenges, many of which will require eresearch to support their work.

data science: The exponential growth of data is forcing researchers to adopt novel data analytical tools, such as machine learning and data mining, to make big data small again.

education: new skills and career paths are emerging in New Zealand, based around applying advanced computing to research. Meanwhile, both new and established scientists are starting to need these skills in order to keep up on the world stage.

Submissions should focus on work currently underway or recently completed. Ideal contributions expose the cultural, organisational, and technical considerations in developing eResearch capabilities and delivering eResearch solutions.
