The work of UK artist Jonty Hurwitz is a heady alchemy of photogrammetry, electron microscopes, 3D printing, and multiphoton lithography (MPL).

What results are pieces like 'Trust', which weighs in at a whopping 80x100x20 microns, and is the world’s smallest sculpture of a human form — so small it cannot be seen by the naked eye.

MPL focuses several femtosecond-long pulses of near infrared wavelengths of light through a microscope onto a polymer.

It’s a painstaking process, to be sure: The resin absorbs two photons at a time until voxel by voxel, layer upon layer, the polymer solidifies and the tiny artifact comes into view.

There’s much more to Hurwitz's art than meets the eye. Check out his mathematical paintbrush on display in his algorithmic anamorphic sculptures.
