As we grapple with big data, spreadsheets become less useful while computer-rendered visualizations gain currency. Why? It’s all very human, really. When we can see patterns and relationships with our eyes, we comprehend them faster.
Enter Teradata, an international data analytics, marketing, and consulting firm. Teradata’s Art of Analytics gallery presents 20 data visualizations as works of art, and includes descriptions of insights, analyses (patterns and relationships), and artists/analysts. For example, Yasmeen Ahmad’s visualization, 'Connected Networks,' helped a telecommunications company recognize varying network service levels.
Ahmad plotted data attributes such as attenuation and bit rate from residences across a city. These attributes were then clustered to indicate customer network experience. The data points were color coded according to performance, with purple nodes showing excellent performance, orange good performance, and white poor performance.
Teradata is right: “Great insights are more than science, they are an art form.”
