Damaged shipment brings new insight to eye disease

After 9,000 papers published over the course of 10 years, the underlying cause of choroidal neovascularization - a leading cause of loss of vision - was a mystery. Then a serendipitously damaged shipment of donated human retina gave researchers the insight needed to create accurate simulations, rapidly advancing our knowledge of the mechanism that causes this form of macular deneration
