Asia Pacific Editor joins iSGTW

iSGTW and its long-standing partner, the Academia Sinica Grid Computing Centre (ASGC), are pleased to announce that Vivian Tiän-Tiän Chang has joined the iSGTW team in the newly created position of Asia Pacific editor, which is based in Taipei, Taiwan.

"We welcome the addition of an Asia Pacific editor to the global iSGTW team, which marks a major milestone in our efforts to promote the rapid and exciting development of the region," ASGC Project Director Simon Lin said during a recent talk in Taipei. "Our intention is to create opportunities for local and transregional projects to showcase their work and expertise to an international audience."

Since the transition of EGEE (Enabling Grids for E-sciencE) to EGI-InSPIRE, ASGC has closely collaborated with the e-ScienceTalk project, by contributing articles to iSGTW, joining the GridCast blog teams at events, and maintaining the Chinese language version of the online GridCafé, which introduces grid computing to a general audience as part of the e-ScienceCity website. E-ScienceTalk is an umbrella project partly funded by the European Commission; E-ScienceTalk supports iSGTW in collaboration with Open Science Grid in the US.

By adding an Asia Pacific editor to its ranks, iSGTW aims to strengthen its reach in the region, broadening the geographic and thematic scope of its current coverage. "I am delighted to welcome the new Asia Pacific Editor to iSGTW and the opportunity that this gives us to work even more closely with ASGC," said Catherine Gater, iSGTW's Board Chair. “iSGTW has continued to grow since its inception at Fermilab in 2006 and we hope it will continue to expand in the years to come with increasing in-depth coverage from new regions.”

In close collaboration with her colleagues in Europe and the United States, the new editor will be responsible for providing a more in-depth picture of current developments in distributed computing technology and its use in scientific research across the region. Another focus of her work will be to maintain and liaise with the existing network of regional and global projects that are using distributed computing technology in a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines.

While completing her master's degree at the University of Cologne, Vivian worked for several newspapers and TV shows in Germany as an online editor and freelance journalist. Prior to joining iSGTW, she served in a variety of communications positions for various research institutions and international organizations, including National Taiwan University and the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change, a non-governmental organization hosted by the United Nations University that fosters social science research on the effects of global environmental change.
