The National Grid Serice (NGS), the leading UK initiative providing access to distributed computational and database resources, has just received continuation funding from JISC and EPSRC. The funding is for 2 years  and is a total of £3 million (approximately $4.2 million, or 3.2 million euros at exchange rates at press time), allowing the NGS to continue to support all academic researchers regardless of research area.

The funding will ensure that UK researchers have access not just to  computational resources but also to important services such as the helpdesk which is staffed by experience grid users and training courses for all users from new to experienced grid users.

Andrew Richards, executive director of the NGS, stressed the
importance of continuation funding both on a UK and EU scale: "The
continuing commitment to the NGS from both JISC and EPSRC, places the
NGS in a strong position to interact with ongoing international
developments in the areas of e-infrastructure development such as the
EGI  and PRACE."
