Feature - ATLAS: the data chain works

A cosmic ray strikes the earth; a muon particle from the ray penetrates an underground detector. The muon triggers the generation of data.

This data is shot from computer center to computer center—recorded, reconstructed and recorded again—until it reaches its final destination: 160 institutions in 35 countries, and all in a seamless chain.

Impossible? Proven concept. ATLAS has done it.
